IV. Conclusion

Although there are many types of optic fiber sensor, but in this paper the modified set-up and mathematic approach is new, and the major advantages of our reflective fiber optical sensor can be listed as follows:

(i) The sensor is sensitive to the reflecting target.

(ii) No contact is required for measurement.

(iii) Resolution is 0.2 m in the measuring range from 0 to 0.5 mm.

(iv) Compare to the interferometer type of optic fiber displacement sensor [11], it is economical and easy to set up.

This reflective fiber optical sensor has been demonstrated for analyzing a vibrating object and easy to fabricate sensors suitable for a harsh environment deployment. Adequate sensitivities are achieved for generally good agreement which was obtained between the testing vibration excitation data and experimental calculation results. The fact that in all cases treated here we are able to carry out the vibration measurements easily and obtain a closed form solution , indicates more general applications of this type sensor may be anticipated.
