Abstract

An integrated course about optics, mechanism, computer science and electrical system is proposed. The principle objectives of the course continue to be to provide an introduction to the basic concepts and methodologies for computer vision, digital speech signal processing and optical metrology, and to develop a foundation that can be used as the basis for further study and research in this field. The topics of this three-year proposal can be listed as follows: 1. the first year: computer vision, laser diffraction pattern analysis, dimension measurement of a saw machining system and electromechanical machine. 2. the second year: interference optics, grating and moire metrology, the sampling, analysis and output of a sound, and the combination of vision system and robotics. 3. the third year: chip based DSP( digital signal processing) equipment, the combination of vision system and XY-table, analysis of photoelasticity fringes and geometrical optics. These topics form the core of a major modernization effort that will be provided in World Wide Web. These areas have found ever-increasing applications in communications, DSP and electro-optics devices, computing, sensing, display, printing, and automatic manufacturing process. We will cooperate with many factories to fit each industrial application.
